Our new house!!!

THEY BROKE GROUND!!!!!!! I know it has taken me a while to post this, ground was broken last Thursday, the cement footers went in Friday and they put in the forms and poured the walls today! It is going up really fast now that they are doing something with it!

We are so excited! We also went to the design center last week, and went a whopping 2000 over budget (yes, I am being sarcastic!). We went through and decided that there were several things that we had added that we could do ourselves for a WHOLE lot cheaper. This just makes more sense to us all the way around.

After yesterday and the next door neighbor from Hell, we can not wait to move!!!

So, I haven't blogged for a while. Things have been really, well, busy!

Keith lost the contract that he was supposed to start today and after talking to him for a bit, we have decided that I need to go back to work.

That was last Friday. Since then I have put out about 40 resumes, signed up with a bunch of different "Job" sites, i.e. Monster.com, jobing.com, that sort of thing.

I don't know if anything will come of it, but I certainly hope so. I do have one possibility, and have a 1st interview tomorrow with Ameriquest Financial. I am pretty iffy as to wether or not I am really interested or not. I have a good possibility with Nintendo of America as a Merchandising Rep for the Northern Front Range. I really would like this one. It sounds like a lot of fun.

The biggest problem with Ameriquest is that they are in the Tech Center and I don't know that I want to make that drive by myself through rush hour every day. Now if Keith is working down there, it might be a bit more feasible. Of course there are also all of the other resumes that I put out to. We'll see.

This is interesting. Keith and I have been firm believers in The Five Love Languages for years. But in thinking about (if you have read the book) my results, I wonder how much is really me and how much is a mask. For years Keith has asked me to rub his back, caress him, etc. and the only thing that I generally think is "Man, I wish you would do this for me!" The last time I said I wanted a back rub, we got into a fight!

I very much need Keith to constantly re-affirm that he loves me. I love it when he sends me "kisses" through IM because he is telling me that he loves me. I am saying I love you all the time to him, just so that he will say it back. When I make something, I always ask him first for his opinion. "Do you think they will like it?" "Do you like it" "How do I look" those sort of things, just so I can get something out of him. I am so getting tired of feeling like I have to beg for it. Is it really worth it?

When we go on our long drives (which is really why I prefer road trips to flying) I have an absolute blast. When we went away for our anniversary, I have never felt like Keith loved me more! We spent time just being in the room together snuggling. We don't do nearly enough of that. I have spent a lot of time lately feeling like everything is going right in our lives, we have a new car, we are building a new home, but emotionally I feel generally blah with brief areas of anger OR joy, but none of it ever seems to last very long either way. Well, I guess it is time to go upstairs, time to get ready for bed.

OK, so maybe it is just wishful thinking, but I feel thinner already! We are now on our 3rd day into the diet, and introducing veggies into the diet. We still do the shakes, and bars but now, it is a shake for breakfast, veggies and half a food bar for snack, a shake for lunch, veggies and 1/2 a food bar for afternoon snack and a dinner, with a fruit snack for dessert.

One thing is for sure, I haven't been going hungry this morning! I feel stuffed! So, we are on phase 2 for the next 13 days and then we go to phase 3. It seems like an awfully short phase 2 to me. Oh Well. I made a mistake on dinner for tonight. It is chicken instead of steak. That is more than ok with me! Mmmmmm chicken, with a touch of BBQ sauce! Wooohooo!!!!!

The Quest to be Thinner

Keith and I are on a quest. We need to remove weight, A LOT of weight. Between the 2 of us we need to lose about 100 pounds. That is almost the size of Kyle.

I know there are a lot of people out there that have/are trying to diet. This is not the first one that Keith and I have been on. The other ones have always left us feeling like we are hungry. With the Trim Advantage diet that we started yesterday, it seems like we are constantly putting something in our mouths. The first 2 days of this diet are to get over the cravings for sugar and salt. We are drinking homemade protein shakes and eating protein bars and a ton of water. On a side note, did you know that you are supposed to drink half of your body weight in water a day? I am having a hard time getting through half that much and not feel like I am floating away, but in the words of Branni, I digress.

One thing is for sure, I am not hungry! The first 16 days is also to get us used to eating a lot of little meals in a day so that we are never really hungry and therefore don't gorge ourselves when it is time to eat dinner or whatever.

So, here we are in the first 2 days, we are not supposed to exercise at all because we are trying to flush all of the crap out of our systems. I don't know if it is working or not, but I have figured out that part of my thing with eating is the movement of my jaw. I like to chew things. sounds weird, I know, but there it is. There is something satisfying about munching on something until it is mash and having it slide down my throat. (Get your head out of the gutter...) I am so looking forward to tomorrow when we can have a dinner with real solid food again. Last night it was very hard watching and smelling the food that the kids ate. The one thing I know is that this choice to be on a diet is like every other choice. You make the choice and then you manage it every day. It will eventually become a habit and you don't think about it after that.

I'll keep you posted on how it goes as we start seeing progress. Tomorrow night is Steak dinner. Yummmmm, steak!

It cracks me up that before we decided on a house it was like pulling teeth to get a good deal on a house. Now that we have picked our house, people are coming out of the woodwork to try and give us a "better deal". Take Lennar for example. the minute I said that we have chosen a house, they said well we can beat it. And the deal sounded really good until Keith and I realized that the ranch they offered is smaller, adn I don't like the kitchen. Now, if they had offered the next step up ranch, I would have been hard pressed to say no. With the one that they are offereing, it was pretty easy.

Only 4 more months! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!

Isn't it interesting that just when you think everything is going the right way, something else happens, whether it be good or bad?

Keith and I got a call from the new development yesterday. Evidently the "elevation" that we wanted had a charge to go with it, but nobody realized the error in the paperwork until yesterday. Since this was an error on DR Horton's part and not ours, they are taking care of the charges and giving us what we want. We also found out that they have upped the timetable and now instead of the delivery date being 120-150 days, it is now 90-150 days with it probably getting done in the 120 day mark. So, in order to work with this timetable, I don't think we are going to be able to do the margharita party thing. Oh well. We'll do it for the housewarming. I just don't see how we can come up with all of the money a month a head of what we were planning. BUT this is OK. I talked to some of our new friends at church and a lot of people have already volunteered to help us move when the time comes. Including even getting us a truck with a lift gate on the back so we don't have to try and haul the heavy stuff up a ramp! Wooohooo!!!!!

WE ARE MOVING IN 5 MONTHES!!!!! Keith and I went and signed contracts on the house last night! I am so excited! It takes a LONG time to sign those things!

Next step: getting the financing taken care of. We had to fill out pre-qual paperwork, and we will see what they say. I am not worried though. If they decline us we will go through Kamal. All will be good! I can't wait. I have already started working on how I will decorate the house, and what is going where, and what paint we are going to need to buy, and what fabric is going to be best for creating Kyle's jungle room. YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!

The Search Is Over!!!!!

WE FOUND IT!!!!!!! At least I am 99.99% sure we found it! Now if we can just make the timing work out to get the piece of property we want!!!

We have decided that we are going to go with the Harvard at Raspberry Hill. (See previous posts).

It is beautiful. I have already started making plans for how we are going to decorate it! I am so excited! They have a roughly 5 month build time, so it looks like we could be moving as early as August!

So, here is how it went. Keith and I got up on Saturday and we went to see the DR Horton's behind our house. They have a model of the Maroon there. It was OK, not exactly it, but certainly do-able. Then we went to the Lennar at Monarch Estates, and Keith wasn't really wild about that. After going through it again, I realized that there was a lot that I wanted in a house that the Castle Peak just didn't have. So then we drove down to Raspberry Hill.

The Harvard is pretty much exactly what we are looking for. After combining all of the lists, we had 32 things that we wanted in a house. The Harvard has 30 of them. The only 2 things that it is missing is we had wanted a 3 car garage and there is only a 2 and 2/3 car (but they are giving us a $5000 credit towards the base price) and we had wanted a sitting room in the master. We decided that those two things were easy to give up in leiu of the other things that we were getting. YAY!!!!! =)

Well, today I am out of the house hunting frenzy. I need to clean up the house since I won't be here tomorrow. Lani is taking me out to get my nails done. Wooohooo!

So I am cleaning the house, and doing the work out. Then I am going to work on Cathy's dress some more. I need to at least get her underskirt done this weekend. I want to get the beads done on the underdress done before Monday. I don't know if that will happen or not, but I want to at least to try. I also need to hem up the underskirt and put the front seam in the overdress. I am going to wait in hemming the overdress until close to the end of this project. I am really liking the way this dress is turning out! The cream colored beads outlining the design on the bodice is coming out really well. I only have about 1000 beads left to put on it! =)

The dress will be done for Outlands Coronation in May. I intend to get a LOT of pictures of it. Well, time to get to work!

So here is what I found out. People are weird when they are trying to convince you that you need to move to their community. I mean really, if you don't have what I am looking for, don't try to make up for it by trying to change my mind on what I want. I know what I want and you aren't going to be able to change it for me.

So here goes...

The one at Buckly Ranch is out. They only have one left and it is WAY out of our price range now that they tinkered with it.
The two at Brighton Farms East are out because they no longer are available. The community is doing a close out and have only one house left available, and it is icky.

We are now done to the original 6 and had two added by one of the developments that thought I might be interested in another one of their ranches and possibly the main floor master. I haven't really been able to take a minute to look at it yet. Now, still in order of size.

The Preserve (Brighton) - The Prarie - 1941 sq. ft. Lot size 11,237 sq ft. - Base price $248,450
Marshal Lake (Thornton - Maroon - 1945 sq.ft. Lot size, unknown. $ 274,950 Base Price. They still haven't called me back. The bums!

In Search of My Own Home, part 2

So, after spending the better part of the day yesterday looking at ranches, this is what I have come to. Out of 17 builders I was only able to find 10 ranches that might fit the bill. 2 of which I have already been through. Today I am going to call on these 10 ranches and see what kind of property they have. If the lot sizes are to small, then that ranch gets tossed out on it's perverbial ear. Here is the list as it stands right now in order of size:

Brighton East Farms has a nice little ranch called the Tuscon that is 1858 sq.ft It has an option for a 3 car garage, the bedrooms are away from the Master and it is only $215,995 base price! The only bummer part appears to be that there is no bay window option for Katya and it doesn't have the split bathroom thing. Other than that it looks promising. Built by Pulte.
Coyote Run (Mead) has a nice looking ranch called the Geneva Hill. Base price is higher at $278,950. It is 1964 sq.ft. and has a cute little courtyard, at least by the floor plans. Master is away from the other two bedrooms, but still no split bath and no bay window. (Note to self: I am going to have to ask about that). Built by Engle Homes
The Preserve (Brighton) has a ranch called The Prairie that sounds wonderful. Still no bay and no split bathroom but it is on a lot that is 11,237 sq.ft, shaped like a pie wedge. has an extra room for a den/study/guest bedroom, but it has the smaller shower that Keith is opposed to. The asking price is $248,450. This home is built by Woodcrest.
DRHorton has a home called the Maroon in a development named Marshal Lake (Thornton) . It is 1945 sq ft. and starts at $274,950. This house has pretty good sized secondary bedrooms with the biggest being 13'9" x 11'0". This home has some serious possibilities. It has a 3+ car garage, and the master suite is away from the kids rooms. Still no split bathroom, but it does have the shower with the seat for my Hunka Burning Love.
Here we are back at Brighton East Farms and another Pulte Home called The Brahms. This one is 2091 sq ft. Base price $232,879. Has the 3 car option. The biggest challenge that I see with this one is that the bedrooms are all in a row with only the corner of the master closet seperating the Master from a kids room. It does however have the split bath that the kids (Katya) are looking for. Who knows. it may work. It does look like it has a lovely porch out front.
This is another DRHorton. This one is in Raspberry Hill (Firestone). It is called the Harvard and comes in at 2142 sq.ft. Again with the bedrooms in a row, BUT the Master is seperated from the other bedrooms by the master bath (and yes, the shower has a seat) and the walk in closet. I could live happily with that. It also has an extra room right by the front door that could be set up as a study! Exellent!
The Maroon by Standard Pacific in Turnberry (Commerce City). I talked about this one in my first post on the houses so you'll just have to go back and read it. The advertising blurb reads: A specious ranch with an open floor plan. A huge great room boasts a 3-sided fireplace which also opens to the kitchen and the breakfast nook. Master bedroom with optional door to the back patio. 5 piece Master bath has a oval soaking tub. Private hall leads to 2 additional bedrooms (one with a bay window) and a full bath (not split). Oversized to car garage, and an optional full size basement. The base price only $273,660 for 2219 sq. ft..
Monarch Estates' Castle Peak is the other one that I talked about in my first home entry. This is just cool. It is about $290,000 but has pretty much all of the options that we would put in a house anyways. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the split bathroom and no bay window. It is on a 7200 sq.ft. lot, and has a wonderful porch. It also has the Master away from the other bedrooms and has a study. It is 2251 sq.ft.
Last, but certainly not the least is the Silver Pine by Beazer Homes. It is located in Buckley Ranch (Commerce City). Has a 3+ car garage and is 2528 sq. ft. and has the shower in the Master Bathroom that Keith wants. It has the split bath that the Katya wants, and two very good sized bedrooms for them that are seperated from the Master. It has the additional study and lots of extras. Sounds great right? I mean really, this looks (at least on paper) like the house of our dreams. Has almost everything on the list except for the Bay Window. Here is the hitch. Base price is $313,900, that is before the hardwood floors, before the carpet upgrade, before the delux kitchen option. Oh well, can't really have it all, right?

I just realized that I forgot a major homebuilder in my search. So, I am off to look up Oakwood Homes and see if they might have something in the area we want to be in AND that is right for our family. Wish me luck!

I want a home. More than anything else, I want a home. I want to be able to do what ever I want to my home (within reason) and not worry about what my landlord thinks. I want to put up a fence and know that it is my fence and I didn't waste my money! I want to paint it inside the way that I want it, and if I don't like it, I want to be able to change it! I want the new carpet, the hardwoods, the silestone countertops! I want air conditioning! I want it to be mine!

Keith and I are at odds (kind of) as to when we are going to buy said house. I want it as soon as possible and he wants to wait for a few months and then do a dirt start. I don't want to wait and end up moving right before the holidays. I like having the big holidays at my house, and I don't want to be unpacking while I am trying to cook!

I know that it will happen, but I want it to happen NOW! Even if we dirt start it now, it will take anywhere from 5-7 months before it is ready to be moved into. I can wait that out, as long as it is getting built and I can go look at it in it's various stages and say that is mine!

We have looked at a ton of houses, and through everything I think we have narrowed down what we want. Here is our list as it stands right now. I may add more later...

So far there have been 2 ranches that I have found that meet most of these requirements, but I have yet to find one that meets all of them. I know that there is a house out there that is going to meet all of our requirements as well as the wants!

We found one out in Turnberry (104th and Hwy 2) that is SO close, and it is in a good price range. It is being built by Standard Pacific. There are only 2 things on our list that this house doesn't have. It doesn't have the split bathroom, and the property that this particular ranch is on is only 6500 square feet. Other than that it is a little more East than I wanted to go, but I don't mind it really. The community has a swimming pool going in which is WAY cool.

The second one Keith hasn't had a chance to walk through yet, but I really like it. It is built by Lennar (ei) and has everything that I want, but not what the kids want. Other than that it fit all of the above criteria. The only downfal is that it is only on a 7200 square foot piece of property. The house is 2200 square feet which leaves about 5000 sq. ft. yard. That is still not that small when you figure we are on a 5000 sq ft lot now and the house takes up 1000 sq.ft of that. this house would keep the kids in the same school district and they both really want that.

So, I am off to browse the internet some more. See if I can find ranches with all of the builders that are here in Firestone/Frederick/Dacono area, and see if any of them might fit the bill for what we want. Wish me luck.

My Friends

So I just thought of something to write about. I want to tell you about my dearest friends. My favorite people in the whole world (besides my family) are listed to the left side of the screen. Sharon should be added to the list, but she doesn't have a blog that I know of.

Arwen is my Laurel in the SCA besides being my friend. She is my ear when I want to do my "Gwentliana's Folly" stuff. She has never told me that I should step back and rethink myself, but sort of lets me fall on my face and then just smiles when I come back and say well THAT was stupid! There has only been one time that I was annoyed with her, and I think looking back on it now, that it was more my fault than hers. If I had slowed down to think about it I would have realized a few things and not been such a jerk. Oh well, I can't ALWAYS be the "good" apprentice! lol

Branwen and Masahide are two of the most caring, sharing, and loving friends a person could have. I adore them wholeheartedly. They treat me like I am a part of their family, and I hope that I am as good a friend to them as they are to me. Branni has always been there to listen to me when I needed a moment to rant. I know that sounds silly, but I am usually the one who listens to everyone else, and rarley get the chance to just vent. A person needs that chance and she has never told me to shut up and get over it! And she is just so darned cute! I get a kick out of her, especially when she starts picking on her husband! Masahide is a wonderfully talented man. I am firmly convinced he is a boy trapped in a man's body much like my husband. They both have the same wicked humour and it cracks me up to watch the two of them together. There is rarely a dull moment. If there is anything that I could wish for with the two of them, it is that we could spend more time with them.

Hello World, and welcome to my blog. I don't really know what to talk about right now, except to introduce myself and say that my hubby is awesome because he set this up for me! He made it a LOT more user friendly.

If you don't know me, my name is Kittery Lee Barrows, otherwise known as Gwentliana filia Iohannes in the SCA. I am first and foremost a wife and mom. My hobbies include, in no particular order, being a seamstress, a singer, an artist, being as good of a friend as I can to everyone that I call friend, and playing games on my computer.
